Machakos residents have reason to smile this year because the Kenya Power and Lighting Company has embarked on work to renovate the power supply system in the area.

The company has announced that it will spend Shs400 million on the project which will see the installation of new power hardware will be introduced and extra electrical cables raised to serve Machakos town, Mavoko, Kathiani, Masii, and Mbooni.

The upgrade has been necessitated by increased demand for electricity for quick growth of housing estates and factories especially in the areas adjacent to Nairobi such as Syokimau, Katani, Kamulu and Mlolongo.

There has also been great expansion in Machakos town where large sections of rural homes have installed electricity.
